چکیده

Besides the obvious advantage of mobility, wearable computing o ers intimacy with the user for augmented realities. A model of the user is as important as a model of the physical world for creating a seamless, unobtrusive interface while avoiding \information overload." This paper summarizes some of the current projects at the MIT Media Laboratory that explore the space of user and physical environment modeling.

Tangible Augmented Reality

This paper advocates a new metaphor for designing threedimensional Augmented Reality (AR) applications, Tangible Augmented Reality (Tangible AR). Tangible AR interfaces combine the enhanced display possibilities of AR with the intuitive manipulation and interaction of physical objects or Tangible User Interfaces. We define what Tangible AR interfaces are, present some design guidelines and prot...

Augmented Public Transit: Integrating Approaches to Interface Design for a Digitally Augmented City

The contemporary body is a connected body that can instantly access home, work, leisure, and information via rapid mobility and communication networks, a “tethered” body as Sherry Turkle would put it. The ever-intrusive reach of technology into our social and physical environments and our bodies has given birth to the idea of the cybernetic organism (cyborg) or post-human (Hayles, 1999). In the...

Models and Mechanisms for Tangible User Interfaces

Current human-computer interface design is dominated by the graphical user interface approach, where users interact with graphical abstractions of virtual interface devices through a few general-purpose input “peripherals.” The thesis develops models and mechanisms for “tangible user interfaces” – user interfaces which use physical objects, instruments, surfaces, and spaces as physical interfac...

A Mobile Augmented Reality User Interface for Terrestrial Navigation

To date augmented realities are typically operated in only a small de ned area, in the order of a large room. This paper reports on our investigation into expanding augmented realities to the outdoor environment. The project entails providing visual navigation aids to users. A wearable computer system with a see-through display, digital compass, and a di erential GPS are used to provide visual ...

Workspaces Hyper - Bonds – Multimodal Interfaces for Collaborative Workspaces of the Future

2 Multimodal Man-Machine Interfaces for learning and working are getting more and more important if we foresee, as we do, a closer integration of different real and virtual realities, mixed realities. To make these multimodal interfaces, based on mechatronic principles easy to use as a developer and user, we need more general theoretical concepts and practical modules. A generalized concept to ...
